boundaries of design.

[What we are]

RBG18 is non-disciplinary.

RBG18 specializes in the creation of matter.
RBG18 harnesses innovative technologies.
RBG18 challenges conventional functionality.

[ RBG18 philosophy]

  1. We push away defining boundaries between disciplines.
  2. We evolve at the frontier of digital fabrication, algorithmic design, and radical materiality.
  3. We use technology as an extension of expression.
  4. Form follows experimentation
  5. Function is an artifact of progress,
  6. Every object is a fusion of purpose and provocation.
  7. We intent to use sustainable methodologies, ensuring that innovation minimizes the cost of the planet.
  8. Collaboration in isolation.

RBG18 creates functional art, while our sparring partners bring expertise in technology, material innovation, and sustainable practices. Together, we prioritize purposeful aesthetics, design essence, and adaptability. With a shared commitment to pushing boundaries, our collaborations blend craftsmanship, cutting-edge technology, and a deep understanding of human interaction.

We value independence as much as we value collaboration. By staying agile, we choose to work together on projects where our combined strengths add unique value. This approach allows us to offer a holistic perspective—where art meets function, tradition meets innovation, and design becomes a transformative experience.

Chess

[Briefing]
Our chess design was born from a essentialist conservative idea: to create a minimal set that preserves the identity of each piece. Our goal was to strike a balance. We reimagined the classic shapes of the knight, king, and other pieces, distilling them into clean, modern lines while ensuring they remain unmistakably chess.

For organizational and tactile reasons, magnets are embedded in the middle of each square. Mixed media showcasing of a LP or other material is possible. The result is a set that honors the game’s heritage while embracing a bold, architectural aesthetic—a perfect fusion of tradition and innovation.
